I used to be a donor. I never thought that someday I would need help. Today I’m on Social Security. If I didn’t have this, I would be in the streets.
I sold everything I could. I had jewelry that was from another time when I had a social life in New York. I thought, ‘I don’t go out, I’m not going to wear this.’ So I sold it. I had paintings. I called Sotheby’s and sold one. I still have a couple of things I could sell, but I am keeping them just in case.
My rent keeps going up. The food I get here helps me stay in my apartment. Whenever I need anything, I come to Grateful Hearts and I find it! I call Grateful Hearts “God’s supermarket” because they always have what I need.
